Many MTN Nigeria subscribers are outraged at the treatment the telecommunications company is giving them. Customers have been asked to register their lines before August 18, 2015. Those who did not register their lines or their lines have not been properly registered had their lines blocked. the most affected are MTN customers. Today, you can see thousands of them storming MTN offices asking for their lines to be reactivated.
Though the issue affected all networks, it seems only MTN is finding it difficult dealing with complaining customers. This is largely due to the fact that MTN did not give erring customers notice before their lines were cut off. Other networks had been sending text messages to customers asking them register as the deadline drew close.
Speaking with one unhappy customer, Titilope, she said that MTN had been unfair to her and had yanked off her line without warning. "I know about the deadline and I had gone to register. All of a sudden they just blocked my line. when I went there to complain, they said that I did not register properly. Why can't they just send me a text before the deadline so that I can go and do it properly. They just cut off my line. Thank God that I have an Etisalat line. I just want to collect my line back because I still have some people who know me with the MTN."
Similar stories for many other customers. Speaking with a worker at an MTN store, he agreed that MTN had some blames but most of the blame goes to the customers. He stated that the deadline had been moved several times yet they refused to register. He said he could not comment about the issue of incomplete registrations.
What however makes MTN's case seems worse is the fact that they leave their customers out in the sun while waiting to get re-registered. Some of their offices close their doors while letting customers come in one at a time. A particular lady with her baby tied to her back said she has been waiting in line for over 3 hours.
